from the Monastery of the Capuchin
Friars of San Giovanni Rotondo
In this moving documentary, we share the path that led to sainthood for the young Francesco Forgione, later renowned and loved throughout the world as PADRE PIO. We gain inspiration and hope from the quiet places that marked the incredible course of this humble friar’s life, an ailing boy from the town of Pietrelcina. Padre Pio’s monastery in southern Italy, at San Giovanni Rotondo, where the monk prayed and preached to thousands during his lifetime, is today a sanctuary for millions of pilgrims each year from every part of the world. The celebrated moments of Padre Pio’s life until his death in 1968, from his first stigmata as a young man, to his good works, healing, and preaching, carry above all his message of peace, sacrifice and love. The exhumation of the Saint’s body, said to be intact 40 years after his death, leaves us to wonder and reflect.
